Ah, village life. In my defense I'm never actually trying to scare him. I stomp through the grass but he never hears me because he's always off in his own little world, but I think this is how he sees me.

This actually remind me of something I do, a lot. And that is sneaking, and I mean hardcore sneaking, without meaning in. (Most of the time anway)
I can be wearing bright colours, like one of those signal yellow jackets you get at workplaces, those that are made to make you easily visible, and walking normaly up to people, and they jump! Because they did not see or hear me coming, I just suddenly there...

Ril Sams climbed Hanlon with his hounds last night.
But when they winded something below the top,
And wouldn't go beyond the lantern light,
And trembled on the lead, then he came home.
I trust the hounds: they know what made them stop,
What lurks there in the mist on Hanlon's top....

You remind me of one of my neighbors, who loves to do the same thing. Except she has a Malamute and a pitbull/ golden retriever mix. One is a big puppy the size of a motorcycle and the other loves to chase people that run XD And to be honest, she can make herself sound like a wicked witch at times (laughs like one too...)
