Barramundi become sexually mature as males at about three to four years old. Males turn into females from about five or six years of age onwards, but require saltwater for this sex change.

So all the big fish are female, and all the females have younger lovers..

True. Clownfish and wrasses do this. Ribbon eels are also believed to do this based on how they change colours.
