Probably because Robin Hood is European, and contrary to common modern belief, medieval Europe had quite a lot of contact with the African continent
Granted, a lot of contact was in the form of religious warfare, but the continents certainly weren't isolated from each other.
I mean, Africa isn't THAT far away. Those that had the means could travel quite a lot during medieval times, and there was a notable exchange of goods between Europe, Africa and Asia.
